thanx for that wonderful evening in the "Tränenpalast" in Berlin yesterday. No doubt, it was a fairly extraordinary feeling to have such a great time in a building that (referring to the name and its former purpose) probably caused many tears in German history.
Although it was by far not the first time I saw you live it is always a pleasure to enjoy your explosive and mind-crushing performance and style. And besides the drumming, you surely could have made it in the comedy business as well because I think everybody had to laugh about your funny stories and experiences with Toto and others!
And finally one more thing: What I like the most is that you - despite your big success all over the world - still remained the chummy "drummer next door" who´s just comming around to tell and show us the latest tricks and to let us have part in his outstanding talent.

I've been a fan since I first heard you on Gary Moore's 'Back On The Streets' and Judas Priest's 'Sin After Sin'.
Seems like ages ago now! I've been fortunate enough to see you play both at clinics and with TOTO. Being a fellow Londoner I'll
always hold you in high esteem for your precise and tastful playing. I'm a bit out of the touch with the drumming world at the

Good to see you are still slammin' the skins. I have been using a rolled-up towel in my bass drum for years based on one of
your instructional videos I watched in the 1980's. During a studio session (working with student engineers) one student asked
how I discovered the towel idea because my bass drum sounded so good in the recording. I told him Simon Phillips. He said,
"who?" After versing the Simon Phillips discography he figured out who Simon Phillips is. I would love to see you come to
Ohio and do a clinic -- I have never seen you play live. After reading other guests comments I feel I am really missing out.

A bit late this message but here goes. Went to see Toto at RAH and took my 14yr old grandaughter (whom I've been teaching
for the last 18mths) to her first Rock Concert.Suffice to say you gained another fan.Not surprising really as I've been
playing for 46yrs and you still manage to leave awestruck at times.Great concert,brilliant solo.Thanks for a great night.

Hi Sir Drummer...I've just come back from your clinc @ Blue Note in Milan...my parents and some friends of my are still asking
me 'bout the show, and my answer is "I've got no words at the moment...."...and it's the true: I've been waiting for 3
years to see you playnig live (unfortunately, last july I couldn't come in Brescia and Modena because of the university)...
and this afternoon one of my dreams has became true! You were distant a few meters from me, and I could see everything
(I was upstairs on your rightside)....I really appreciate the simplicity of your explaining, the helpfulness in answering
the questions...it may seem strange to you, but we've really appreciated your readiness in keepin the time when you've lost
your earphones (doublebass settles always any problem!)...thank you so much for your example of perfect drumming and for being

to drums essentially. Having heard you 10 years ago playing live in a tent nearby Darmstadt (after Roger Chapman) I was
electrified by your style. Talking about you we respectfully talk about "Holy Simon" and mean it. I listened carefully
to your arrangements and well: you´re not just an amazing drummer but also a good composer/arranger. And: you can
tell/feel if Santana or Gary Moore with their special sounds are involved in a song. The same happens when you hit the
drums. Beside Bozzio you´re the only one I recognize at any time in any song. That´s great. Thank you for being around for

I saw you play last Friday night At Chastain Park in Atlanta. You guys sounded great, and your solo was awesome. I especially
liked the part in your solo where you were showcasing your 4 way interdependence and you had one rhythm going with your left
hand on your Octobans, and your feet and right hand were off doing something else. Your dynamics were great too, how you
would go from real quiet to real loud and fast. Anyway, I thought the band sounded great too.

| Comments: | I just wanted to tell you, Simon, I was a big fan of Toto way back when, but when Jeff died, I lost track of the group. A couple weeks ago I discovered the 25th anniversary DVD. I had no idea Toto was even touring. My first thought was, "who did they get to replace Jeff?". When I saw it was you, I bought the DVD without hesitation. I watched it today and my expectations were met, and then some. Awesome performance, sir. Your technique, especially on the toms, is second to none. Even better than when I heard you with the Who. Wish I could make my Tama's sound like that. Rock on!!

Mr. Phillips, Was wondering what had become of you, not having heard anything since the Who in '89. I
remember listening to the Radio City show live from that tour, and the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. Thanks for having brought back life to
their sound on that tour. Did you part ways with them on good terms. Not my busines, but if you care to elaborate...
Have you seen Zak since he took over the seat? At the Garden in '00, the last of 4 shows was quite outstanding. If you've seen them from that point on, what
are your impressions of his playing? I thought you captured the Moon style, but more disciplined and technically refined, yet with more energy and attack
then I'd ever heard Kenny Jones display. No offense to Jones, I just never thought he was a good fit for them. Zak on the other hand does a fine job, having
come along quite a bit from the '96 tour, and doing a great job playing in the Moon tradition. I wouldn't hesitate to say that he emmulates Keith, because
that is what the Who needed, and if you're going to emmulate someone, whilst in this case never duplicating, I'd think that a compliment. As they say,
imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Good luck with your continued endeavors. That you're now sitting at the former throne of Jeff Porcaro is
further testament to your skills. Cheers.

I must be honest.. I had no idea who you were as of a year ago. I had heard Toto before but only Studio tracks with Jeff Picaro. I have a friend from LA who use to play in a band that covered Toto tunes. He picked up the 25th anniversery DVD last summer and introduced me to the band for the first time. In an effort to keep this short I just want to say that I feel your drumming is great. There are not many drummers out there that have the ability to play for the song and still stand out. Most drummers try to do too many things at once and end up ruining the groove. You have a very sneeky and subtle way of playing complicated licks, but making it sound fluid while still keeping the groove. You are a big influence on my drumming and you will continued to be... Toto should play somewhere soon in Atlantic Canada or US!! I will be there if it is close enough to home.

I've managed to get as close to the drum kit as legally possible, and without seming like a stalker! Your playing is so much fun to watch, especially so close and away from the stage sound. We've met a few times! You signed my extremely outdated Tama poster from 1990? Anyway I told you this in person and I'll tell you again, if it was'nt for you I probably would have given up on drums(and maybe been a rich guitar player?!?). There are some fills that you've done, or still do, that I just can't figure out. Or that catch me by surprise. Or that make me laugh out loud! It's just been the most fun listening to you, I have many tapes from the tour with The Who(one of my favorite bands ever!). Your playing was amazing and it got better as the tour went on(which obviously makes sense!)And I have become quite a fan of Toto largely due to your presence there. Along with watching you, I got a real kick out of your bass player Mike P.. He is a much different player than John Entwistle. Seeing you play with either of those guys was such a treat. You guys really sound great these days.It must be fun to be in a band where you all seem to be growing and improving as the years go on. Ages ago you recorded two albums with Jack Bruce (and Tony Hymas and Hughie Burns), "How's Tricks" recorded/released 1977, and "Jet Set Jewel" recorded 1978, finally released last year. "Jet Set Jewel" was well worth the wait (great songs, superb arrangements, beautifully played, eclectic stuff) and to me the stuff you played on these two are up with your best work, especially at such a young age (along with "Empty Glass"/"White City" - Townshend, "Smallcreeps Day" -Rutherford, and "There and Back" - Beck) from that era.
Yeah, ages ago I know, but very influential.
Thanks for all this and heaps of other stuff since....I know logistics are a huge problem, but I'm still hopeful you guys can make the trek down to Oz sometime.

I saw one antwerp notp show on tv. Ricky Lawson was groovy but, you're more the toto drummer. You drum toto songs much better than him so that was a pity.

| Comments: | I'm not even sure if Simon reads these but he is still one of my top favorite drummers. He is an unselfish and humble musician who will take on any task that is given to him. For instance, a friend of mine let me borrow a cd called Lion King: Rhythm of the Pride Lands and while this may sound like a child's cd, it features some great drumming. After listening to the funky drums on the track "He Lives in You" I became motivated to find out who did the drumming. I figured that Disney would just hire some no-name drummer to do the project but I looked into it and Simon's name came up. I was extremelly pleased. Whether it's his virtuostic chops from Force Majeure or his groovy time-keeping on Michael Dowdle's "Soulmate" (I suggest checking out all three of these cd's), Simon is still one of my favorites to listen to and he will remain on my top drummer's list. Thanks for all of the great music and inspiration.

now i have the DVD Live in Amsterdam too. FANTASTIC. And i found an DVD, from the TV Show " Ohne Filter" i think it was 1992 with Steve Lukather and the Lobotomys. WOW. I like the songs from the Candyman CD, and now i have seen how you play these songs. You are a great and fantastic musician.

Drumming"(DVD). Your groove and improvisation were really great.
