I would just like to say that i´m looking forward to see you in Stockholm - Sweden in Mars 2006. I have always liked you and Toto aswell. And now i´m not going to loose my chance to see you guys. Oh... another thing, I know this is a little bit old etc. But I would like to say that no other drummer could take Jeff´s place as well as you do!
You are my all!

We are currently auctioning off a number of celebrity custom drum heads to help put instruments back in the hands of music students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Two of these heads are autographed by Simon and other drumming icons including Steward Copeland of The Police and John "JR" Robinson. Check the following page for links to all of the auctions as well as descriptions of the heads: http://www.drumart.com/katrinarelief/ Simon autographed the two "Bring the Music Back" heads. So, aside from being a MONSTER drummer, Simon's also a tres cool dude. Thanks for your support of this worthy cause!

Comments: Hi Simon,

I'm currently 22 yrs old, and I've been drumming for about 8 years. I just want to thank you for being a huge inspiration to me in developing my own style. I see your playing as a celebration of all the other drummers, who have made a big impact on you (thinking Billy Cobham, Tony Williams e.t.c...), whilst having your own creative and artistic stamp on your work.

One thing I've learnt from hearing and seeing you play is, no matter how fantastic you are technically, you're still only worth the substance of your groove.

Once again, my heartfelt gratitude. Long may you contribute the music world!

God Bless.

Please, get back to your Rock-Sound!
I see you on 10-March-2006, Essen (Grugahalle)

You've been a huge inspiration for quite some time now, unfortunately, I've only been able to see you live once - which was great, a smaller club (for you guys) with Toto in Minneapolis in '92/'93. Can't wait to hear the new disc! Though it seems that since your move to the U.S., you (and Toto) have spent more time overseas - hopefully I'll get the chance to see you again soon. Love your work! Keep it coming!

I saw you playing in a big concert named "The Best" on Japanese satellite TV channel, whicn also included Keith Emerson on keyboards, Joe Walsh on guitars, and late John Entwistle on basses.Since that you are definitely my all time drum hero! And the Toto's Taipei concert in '96 (or '97)was one of the best concerts ever holded in Taiwan! I really want to thank you for the two GREAT nights in Taipei, and for being the most inspiration in my drumming. Thanks!

But his english is not good, so i go with him! When I saw you that played the drum, wah... wonderful.. You hit the drum kits so quick, how can you do that? Hopefully, you can give my husband some technique about drum or any course somewhere that he can join it? Hope you can reply the e-mail for us!
Keep on and can see you soon again in Hong Kong!

Comments: Hello Simon,

I saw you last weekend in Beijing at your clinic for Zildjan. I was surprised to see some posters in a Chinees musicstore. They sold T-shirt of your tour and of course we wanted to have it. Then the surprise came that you was giving a clinic that evening. We were there (the dutch guys) and enjoyed again of your technicals. But I believe that the most of the chinese people (just at this moment) not much knowns about the western jazz- and rockmusicians. I think because the western world was for years not open for China. China is an upcomming nation. So keep on and you will see the next time you have to play in a big hall.

Greetings,
Hugo Klaus

And if anyone asks... -my favorite Simon Phillips track is Mike Oldfield's "Poison Arrows" - Everytime I listen to it, in a car, home or work I often just "have to" push the step back button on some points to hear those fantastic fills again on that title. And to say something else, I can't think of anyone else capable of replacing the great Jeff Porcaro, than the great Simon Phillips! =o)

I'm also a drummer and I was very fortunate to see you in action with the Toto 1997 tour to South Africa. I've been wondering, how could I get hold of the footage of that show. You performed at the Standard Bank Arena Johannesburg SA in 1997. I know your publishing company of Toto must keep all footage taken of the band. I was standing right infront of your kit. It would meen a lot to me if I could get hold of that recording on DVD or Video. CAN YOU HELP? Kind regards, Derrick the Drummer

I have managed to collect nearly everything you recorded and hope you get time to record a new album soon that can surpass Another Lifetime. The question...........A number of years ago there was magazine in the UK called 'Rythym' in one publication Rod Morgentstein was asked about 'Space Boogie', he described it as qoute 'the easy stuff played fast'. What do you think? Personally I think he is an a-hole. Firstly he should never rubbish a fellow professional, secondly 17/9 is hardly 'easy' Keep up the good work inspiring thousands around the world!!!!

Before i start, I know it was a while back but your tour with The who was just nothing short of perfect. what was it like playing with those guys?

I have recently purchased the Roland TD20. After watching Thomas Lang I had to get one.

Q. Whats your feeling on the electronic age now when it comes to kits? Eg Yamaha and Roland.

kind regards and thanks for all these wonderful years of masterly drumming.

por eso estudio dia a dia para alcanzarte, aunque lo veo lejano aun, esa es mi meta.

Comments: Hi Simon, just wanted to pay my respects and say thank you for the years of inspiration you have given me along with all the other greats like yourself. I am trying to make a name for myself in the biz at the mo and would love to bump into you one day and have you recognise me!
I do have one thing in common with you which i am very proud of...
I have been playing with a guitarist in the west country called Cliff Moore for around 8 years on and off ( i am about to turn 27).
His brother Gary came down for a family gathering at new year and i had the pleasure of gigging with the man for 2 and a half hours to a packed local hotel function room! A one off but a great one, i will never forget that night and especially when Gary said 'forget old langs ein, lets keep rocking!'What a night. Hopefully one day i will be a regular on that muical level but for now i will have to keep on plugging away! If you get a minute please check out my own bands website that is currently being hosted at www.freedomedia.co.uk/fenlon soon to be www.thejohnfenlonband.co.uk. the mp3 is 4 years old but still swings (and moves a bit!). Anyway, enough of that, hope you read this, all the best, a fellow drummer!

Comments: Hello Simon,

I have recently discovered you through watching an instructional DCI music video you produced with Ray Russell and Anthony Jackson, 1992. I have since read a little about you and some of the work in which you have been involved over the years, including Jeff Beck, Judas Priest and Toto. My main interest is drumming, where I have decided to grow beyond years of playing plastic ice cream tubs and then a basic cheap Maxwin kit, to now invest in a Tama Starclassic. Now I live and work in the Southwest of France and for the moment play someone else’s kit (Pearl Export). I study all those hand and feet exercises you feature in the video plus some of my own. I also try and convey some of what you show in the video to the owner of the kit – relaxation, coordination, control/accuracy, note value, left and right symmetry. I don’t play in a band, but I am embarking on a good percussion learning experience. Incidentally, my heels always stay on the foot plates and never lift; I don’t really mind and this may change. So, thanks for showing a few techniques, and thanks for the web site.

I have heard you and countless others and say you are great but Buddy Rich would really play circles around any one out there today. too much emphasis is put on chops and all around abilities. buddy rich could make you swing and his musicians swing. what we hear out there today is nothing more but boring drumming that is really the same over done ideas. We sadly miss Buddy Rich. Sorry Simon you have the chops and taste and all the ingredients but its really a boring exerciese done over and over again

Thousend thanx for the Leverkusen gig, allways a great pleasure to see and hear you performing with ToTo and solo. But what was wrong with your sticks, you looked like you could not believe, that your using your signature sticks! I´ve realised it too, that there are different qualities of wood, and if one has to pay for them, it`s angry.I know, this is not your fault but now you know about one little problem one has to deal with if one wants to be "in Simons pants".
Thank you for this inspiring evening, stay healthy, good luck and minimum one small Si with your wife and keep on drummin` and makin` us happy.
Till next time, Ralf.

Comments: Hey Simon!!!!

I've been a fan of yours since the days of Stanley Clarke, Jeff Beck, and of course Judas Priest "Sin after sin". Your powerful & dynamic drumming on "Sin after Sin" is inspiring.
I have an old friend named Kevin Curry that you might remember. Kevin is a guitar player from Las Vegas that moved to Los Angeles in the early '90s. He told me that he was in the studio with Steve Lukather while Steve was recording with a group called Los Lobotomys. He said he was in charge of the lighting and mood of the studio, he also said that you were doing some incredible drum parts. I finally got to see & hear Los Lobotomys on the DVD I bought of a concert that Los Lobotomys played in Germany in 1994. My favorite song is Freedom, your drumming kicks ass on this DVD!!!!
I finally had the pleasure of seeing you play live for the 1st time at Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas in March of this year. I really enjoyed your playing, you look like you're having so much fun, your solo blew me away and inspired me at the same time. I look forward to seeing you play live again someday.
Keep kickin' everybody's ass with your amazing drumming!!!!

Your combinations and absolute amazing sticking and hand/foot coordination in my opinion is unsurpassed! Where can I catch you live? I live in Nebraska. Can you turn me on to a book if you have one? How did you manage to unpick Keith Moon's awesome roar from Live at Leeds into - what became - Join Together. I've listened to that album over and over through the years and I'm still lost. Have you any tips, especially with Amazing Journey.
All the best,
Terry

Comments: My English is too bad for express that I feel. In Spanish I can tell you that: cada vez que veo el concierto "through the loogikng glass" y escucho "english eyes" pienso que ese tema fue hecho pensando en ti.

Comments: A responce to "TheBear" about the solos being so long at the Casino Rama shows. My wife and I were at both fantastic shows. The shows were two hours in length and on neither night was an hour given to Greg's and Luke's combined solo times. The time given to them was time well spent

Comments: Just finished seeing Toto at our little casino here, an hour north of Toronto, and of course blown away by the talent of Simon Phillips. (Did he not play at Woodstock with Santana?) My review of the concert was they were incredible! My only complaint is why does everyone have to solo for so long? Nearly a dozen albums to choose from and half the night is taken up by a piano solo or a guitar solo-solo. The only solo I did want to hear was Simon's and he didn't disappoint. I see that MR. P has been playing with Steve Lukather and Toto for awhile but it was a great surprise to see someone of his talent in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Bravo, Eh! Peter Sanderson, Bass.

Comments: Simon, was my first drum clinic....I will nnnever forget!(Denver CO. early 1990's)Been a long time since I have Rock & Rolled. I have brused my house with my sticks and now it is time to get a kit to beat on. Life has ended for me and the only way back to the light is through release. I got $4 grand+ to purchase a kit. Need the best equipment! So I thought I should ask the Best! Simon, I'm listening!

Comments: Hi Simon!

Is there still a chance for an official Doves of Fire release? I really like the audience recordings that I heard but I think it would be much more a pleasure to hear it properly engineered and mixed. This is so long overdue. Please give us an update.

Thanks
Joerg
