Love seeing your drumming in the ARMS concert video. It must have been a blast to play with some of MY heroes (Clapton, PAGE, Beck)! Thoroughly love the
work that you did on that one! Thanks. Best wishes. |

of music students displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Two of these heads are autographed by Simon and other drumming icons including Steward Copeland of The Police

Simon autographed the two "Bring the Music Back" heads. So, aside from being a MONSTER drummer, Simon's also a tres cool dude. Thanks for your support of this

I'm currently 22 yrs old, and I've been drumming for about 8 years. I just want to thank you for being a huge inspiration to me in developing my own style. I see your playing as a celebration of all the other drummers, who have made a big impact on you (thinking Billy Cobham, Tony Williams e.t.c...), whilst having your own creative and artistic stamp on your work.
One thing I've learnt from hearing and seeing you play is, no matter how fantastic you are technically, you're still only worth the substance of your groove.
Once again, my heartfelt gratitude. Long may you contribute the music world!
God Bless. |

Can't wait to hear the new disc! Though it seems that since your move to the U.S., you (and Toto) have spent more time overseas - hopefully I'll get the chance to see you again soon. Love your work! Just saw your clinic in Taipei on Oct.26th, it's like a Dream-Come-True for me! I saw you playing in a big concert named "The Best" on Japanese satellite TV channel, whicn also included Keith Emerson on keyboards, Joe Walsh on guitars, and late John Entwistle on basses.Since that you are definitely my all time drum hero! And the Toto's Taipei concert in '96 (or '97)was one of the best concerts ever holded in Taiwan! I really want to thank you for the two GREAT nights in Taipei, and for being the most inspiration in my drumming. Thanks! |

But his english is not good, so i go with him! When I saw you that played the drum, wah... wonderful.. You hit the drum kits so quick, how can you do that? Hopefully, you can give my husband some technique about drum or any course somewhere that he can join it? Hope you can reply the e-mail for us!
Keep on and can see you soon again in Hong Kong!

I saw you last weekend in Beijing at your clinic for Zildjan. I was surprised to see some posters in a Chinees musicstore. They sold T-shirt of your tour and of course we wanted to have it. Then the surprise came that you was giving a clinic that evening. We were there (the dutch guys) and enjoyed again of your technicals. But I believe that the most of the chinese people (just at this moment) not much knowns about the western jazz- and rockmusicians. I think because the western world was for years not open for China. China is an upcomming nation. So keep on and you will see the next time you have to play in a big hall.
Greetings,
Hugo Klaus |

And if anyone asks... -my favorite Simon Phillips track is Mike Oldfield's "Poison Arrows" - Everytime I listen to it, in a car, home or work I often just "have to" push the step back button on some points to hear those fantastic fills again on that title. And to say something else, I can't think of anyone else capable of replacing the great Jeff Porcaro, than the great Simon Phillips! =o) |

I'm also a drummer and I was very fortunate to see you in action with the Toto 1997 tour to South Africa. I've been wondering, how could I get hold of the footage of that show. You performed at the Standard Bank Arena Johannesburg SA in 1997. I know your publishing company of Toto must keep all footage taken of the band. I was standing right infront of your kit. It would meen a lot to me if I could get hold of that recording on DVD or Video. CAN YOU HELP? Kind regards, Derrick the Drummer |

It's an absolute pleasure to ask you a couple of questions.
Before i start, I know it was a while back but your tour with The who was just nothing short of perfect. what was it like playing with those guys?
I have recently purchased the Roland TD20. After watching Thomas Lang I had to get one.
Q. Whats your feeling on the electronic age now when it comes to kits? Eg Yamaha and Roland.
kind regards and thanks for all these wonderful years of masterly drumming.

| Comments: | Hi Simon, I love your work and you stand out as being my no.1 drumming influence because of your flair and shear electric ability always present in your playing. I'm not a known drummer or anything, but I have always been posessed by a dark obsessive passion to hit drums (to the point where I have lost a great deal) ah didums!
I played in the Enid for a few years and someone told me you visited Robert John at his studio once hahaha! I would love just to get a message from you sir, even if its just a hello!

| Comments: | Hi Simon, just wanted to pay my respects and say thank you for the years of inspiration you have given me along with all the other greats like yourself. I am trying to make a name for myself in the biz at the mo and would love to bump into you one day and have you recognise me!
I do have one thing in common with you which i am very proud of...
I have been playing with a guitarist in the west country called Cliff Moore for around 8 years on and off ( i am about to turn 27).
His brother Gary came down for a family gathering at new year and i had the pleasure of gigging with the man for 2 and a half hours to a packed local hotel function room! A one off but a great one, i will never forget that night and especially when Gary said 'forget old langs ein, lets keep rocking!'What a night. Hopefully one day i will be a regular on that muical level but for now i will have to keep on plugging away! If you get a minute please check out my own bands website that is currently being hosted at www.freedomedia.co.uk/fenlon soon to be www.thejohnfenlonband.co.uk. the mp3 is 4 years old but still swings (and moves a bit!). Anyway, enough of that, hope you read this, all the best, a fellow drummer!

| Comments: | Hello Simon,
I have recently discovered you through watching an instructional DCI music video you produced with Ray Russell and Anthony Jackson, 1992. I have since read a little about you and some of the work in which you have been involved over the years, including Jeff Beck, Judas Priest and Toto. My main interest is drumming, where I have decided to grow beyond years of playing plastic ice cream tubs and then a basic cheap Maxwin kit, to now invest in a Tama Starclassic. Now I live and work in the Southwest of France and for the moment play someone else’s kit (Pearl Export). I study all those hand and feet exercises you feature in the video plus some of my own. I also try and convey some of what you show in the video to the owner of the kit – relaxation, coordination, control/accuracy, note value, left and right symmetry. I don’t play in a band, but I am embarking on a good percussion learning experience. Incidentally, my heels always stay on the foot plates and never lift; I don’t really mind and this may change. So, thanks for showing a few techniques, and thanks for the web site. |

I have heard you and countless others and say you are great but Buddy Rich would really play circles around any one out there today. too much emphasis is put on chops and all around abilities. buddy rich could make you swing and his musicians swing. what we hear out there today is nothing more but boring drumming that is really the same over done ideas. We sadly miss Buddy Rich. Sorry Simon you have the chops and taste and all the ingredients but its really a boring exerciese done over and over again |

Thousend thanx for the Leverkusen gig, allways a great pleasure to see and hear you performing with ToTo and solo. But what was wrong with your sticks, you looked like you could not believe, that your using your signature sticks! I´ve realised it too, that there are different qualities of wood, and if one has to pay for them, it`s angry.I know, this is not your fault but now you know about one little problem one has to deal with if one wants to be "in Simons pants".
Thank you for this inspiring evening, stay healthy, good luck and minimum one small Si with your wife and keep on drummin` and makin` us happy.
Till next time, Ralf. |

| Comments: | Hey Simon!!!!
I've been a fan of yours since the days of Stanley Clarke, Jeff Beck, and of course Judas Priest "Sin after sin". Your powerful & dynamic drumming on "Sin after Sin" is inspiring.
I have an old friend named Kevin Curry that you might remember. Kevin is a guitar player from Las Vegas that moved to Los Angeles in the early '90s. He told me that he was in the studio with Steve Lukather while Steve was recording with a group called Los Lobotomys. He said he was in charge of the lighting and mood of the studio, he also said that you were doing some incredible drum parts. I finally got to see & hear Los Lobotomys on the DVD I bought of a concert that Los Lobotomys played in Germany in 1994. My favorite song is Freedom, your drumming kicks ass on this DVD!!!!
I finally had the pleasure of seeing you play live for the 1st time at Boulder Station Casino in Las Vegas in March of this year. I really enjoyed your playing, you look like you're having so much fun, your solo blew me away and inspired me at the same time. I look forward to seeing you play live again someday.
Keep kickin' everybody's ass with your amazing drumming!!!!

| Comments: | I have been a Jazz & Big Band drummer all my life and I recently viewed a Video:Power Drum Solos, and I must say you are the best I have heard in my life. I pattern my playing after Buddy Rich, Philly Joe, Elvin, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Mickey Roker, all the old Jazz greats. I teach Drum Lessons and have been having my students listen to Dave Weckl, Danny Carey, and the newer cats, but I WILL without a doubt, have them, as will I get deep into your playing! Your combinations and absolute amazing sticking and hand/foot coordination in my opinion is unsurpassed! Where can I catch you live? I live in Nebraska. Can you turn me on to a book if you have one? I work out of my friend Joel Rothman's many excellent books now, but would like to further study you work! Thanks, man. You have one loyal, Die-Hard fan in Bobby Mills JR.! |

| Comments: | My English is too bad for express that I feel. In Spanish I can tell you that: cada vez que veo el concierto "through the loogikng glass" y escucho "english eyes" pienso que ese tema fue hecho pensando en ti. |

| Comments: | Just finished seeing Toto at our little casino here, an hour north of Toronto, and of course blown away by the talent of Simon Phillips. (Did he not play at Woodstock with Santana?) My review of the concert was they were incredible! My only complaint is why does everyone have to solo for so long? Nearly a dozen albums to choose from and half the night is taken up by a piano solo or a guitar solo-solo. The only solo I did want to hear was Simon's and he didn't disappoint. I see that MR. P has been playing with Steve Lukather and Toto for awhile but it was a great surprise to see someone of his talent in Orillia, Ontario, Canada. Bravo, Eh! Peter Sanderson, Bass. |

Needless to say, I have something new to practise, thanks for that! |

| Comments: | Simon,
I came across your name in a rather circuitous but none-the-less enjoyable music route via London's JAZZ FM to Larry Carlton, Larry Carlton to Steve Lukather and Steve Lukather to you and Toto. Some 6 months ago I bought the Steve Lukather/Candyman album and was gob-smacked at the quality, speed and what I would term 'in-fill'drumming you delivered. So much so that I just had to buy the 1994 Los Lobotymys (Amsterdam concert)DVD to see what you were actually doing. The sounds were sensational! I could only watch in awe at the performance you delivered.
I wouldn't even pretend to be a drummer although I dabled a bit in my youth, however I've always had a penchant for the drums as the core element to any music; I can never stop my feet and hands tapping at work or in the car. I've followed and listened to many accomplished drummers like Billy Cobham, Buddie Ritch, Ian Paice, Nick Mason, John Bonham and of course the late-great Jeff Porcaro amongst others. I have to say that your delivery of beat, improvisation, power-drumming and energy put you up there at the very top. Is there a chance you're likely to play in London in 2005? I would love to come and see/hear you for real. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any concert dates and keep playing and re-playing 'Party in Simon's Pants' until my CD & DVD players give up the ghost.
Thank you so much for the liquid gold sounds you have brought to my ears. Happy Para-Diddles! Andy |

| Comments: | Hello Simon Phillips, I´m Klaus from Germany. Since a lot of years I´am fascinated about your drumplaying. I visited many, many of your TOTO-Concerts, Clinics and Workshops, specially in Germany. I play drums by myself, so I´m everytime interested to watch your special methods (leaded left hand !!) of drumplaying. But I never reach the sky, so I must learn, look and practice, practice, practice ...
In May, I´ll stay during a vacation in NYC, so I´ve booked tickets for your both shows at B.B.Kings !! I´m very happy about this and it would be great if it is possible to get a sign from you or to take some pictures of you and your drumkit between, or after the shows.
I hope, you´ll be really there. See you at B.B.Kings !!
Many greetings to all members and the stuff from TOTO !! |

| Comments: | Hi Simon, I like the new website but more audio and visual content (if possible). I have the played the drums in numerous bands for over twenty years, I still get the same buzz now as then. Unfortunately I use many of your fills, but maybe that is a compliment to your abilities.
Your music is cool and your drumming is inspirational. I have a question for you. When you recorded ' space boogie ' on ' there and back ' how did you arrive at that specific rythym? When I first heard it it knocked me sideways, is it 17/9?
I wish I had your lifestyle, playing drums for a living. Good luck with future endeavours.
Please keep making music and pushing the frontiers of percussion. |

Regarding Simon's discography, I noted two small mistakes : a) Michael Berger is actually Michel Berger (was a very famous French pop songwriter who died from a heart attack about 10 years ago. He was around 40) and b) Whitesnake's Whitesnake should, IMHO, be listed under David Coverdale's Whitesnake. Whitesnake's first official release was "Snakebite". Keep up the excellent job ! |

One of the drumstudents made a picture from you and me together, if you like i can sent

Now a little austrian publishing house will publish my thesis as a book, but I' ve a little problem: I would like to give some fotos of the band TOTO in this book. Naturally I have some fotos from music-magazines, but it's not allowed to use them because of the copyrigt-law.
Perhaps you can help me: Would be able to send me some fotos of the band, which I could use for my book. This really would be great.
Perhaps you can answer me per e-mail, if it would be able. Please write to nina.schoenpos@aon.at
Thank you so much, your's Heinz! |

my english isn't good, but I've some to say:
First You are the best drummer in the world, there's nobody best than you. And my question is: are there a livefields tour video or something? I want see Jake to the bone, the drumm solo and dave gone skilling in this live version. it's all. |

| Comments: | Can some of you folks suggest albumn/songs to listen for Simon's best drum work? I remeber hearing some Jeff Beck, I think Blow by Blow, that had some remarkable drumming on it, but I'm sure there are many others with that extensive discography. |

I'm sure most will enjoy the changes. One request though; more pictures in the photo galleries, please! It is always a joy to see new shots of you when your playing (with whomever).
Can't wait to hear new material from your solo projects as well as with Toto.
Cheers! J P
(Didn't appear the first submission went through at this end, my bad.) Cheers |

I must say, for the past 12 years since I saw your performance, I have never seen a more professional, energetic, and perfect drummer in my life. You have surpased my all time favourite drummer, the late Buddy Rich. I wish I could see and listen to you someday live. If you plan to be playing near San Antonio, TX , please have someone send an email eluding to such. Thanks Mr. Phillips. Mike |
